Auditions for Ave LGBTQ
May 27, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Casting Call! Seeking performers of all types for a full-length musical parody. Experience with acting, lip sync, live singing or puppetry a big plus. Drag Queens, Drag Kings, burlesque, dancers, and singers. We are looking for a diverse cast. Rehearsals will be 1-2 per week for approximately 6 weeks followed by two performances dates (TBD). Most roles are paid positions.
Auditions:
Auditions will be held at Velocity Dance Center (1621 12th Ave) on Sat. May 27th from 5:00-7:00pm in 10-15 minute increments. To get an appointment time, please send an email to monkeydanzer@gmail.com with your requested time and include links to videos of your previous work. If you are interested in auditioning but are not available during this time, please send an email stating such and include links to videos or your previous work and we will try to accommodate you at another time.
What to Prepare For Your Audition:
Please prepare a short performance of about 3 minutes in the style of Broadway Musicals. This should show that you can ACT!! It can be lip sync or live singing. Bring your music on a phone or music player that has a headphone jack. Bring another short performance or your choice that really shows YOU and what you can offer. There is no need to come in any type of makeup or costuming, but you can if you wish.
About the Show:
Avenue LGBTQ is a parody of the Tony Award winning Avenue Q and tells the timeless story of a recent college graduate trying to find his way in the world. Set in New York City all the way out on Avenue Q (he couldn’t afford anything better), we are introduced to fresh-faced Princeton as he struggles to find his purpose: meeting friends, finding love, losing love, and finding it again, along the way. Inspired by the beloved children’s show Sesame Street, this show creates a puppet-filled world that is a little more reflective of the difficult, R-rated realities that we face when we learn that real life isn’t as simple as we dreamed it might be – but it suggests that perhaps life is all the more colorful and worthwhile for it.
Note: This parody is specifically written to encompass the specific challenges (and jokes) of the LGBTQ community and we seek a very diverse cast. That being said, this is not an educational or statement piece and is designed for entertainment only. There may be things that some people find offensive (There is actually a song called Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist). The show features many puppets, but don’t let that fool you, Avenue LGBTQ is R-rated, featuring adult topics, offensive language, and an onstage portrayal of puppet sex.
