If you are in the mood for Italian food or pizza Capitol Hill has a number of places to offer.
You may hear a lot about PIECORA’S and its authentic New York pizza but service is pretty slow, the décor is barely casual and a pizza will cost you around $20. Probably better off grabbing one of their slices on your way between the bars on Madison Street.
PALERMO on 15th is a neighborhood favorite and a great value for pizza and pasta. Their website offers coupons. Check out the restaurants on 15th for more info.
VIA TRIBUNALI is a little trendy high end place and probably worth a visit. The pizzas here are unique to Naples. Avoid it if there is a long wait since they want you to spend more money in their bar. Closed Mondays.
OSTERIA LA SPIGA is not only one of the nicest restaurants on Capitol Hill it also attracts customers from throughout the entire city. The pasta is made fresh and food is superb with prices to match.
CHEZ GAUDY is a very unique Italian style restaurant that one needs to see to understand. To prevent their name from just blending into all of the other suggestions I must mention their Tuesday night special when the food is served “tapas” style. Also on Tuesday go and grab your wine bottles of choice from their selection since they are half price. They will tally the total later based on the number of empty bottles on your table.
RISTORANTE MACHIAVELLI is what you have been looking for. Just like your grandmothers cooking. Basic but good Italian dishes and most for under $10. Because the food is pretty good and it is a great value it attracts people from all over the city but its location on Capitol Hill does draw gay regulars in as well.
