R PLACE, 619 E Pine St, has three levels of bars to choose from. A classic bar downstairs; darts, pool and couches on the 2nd level; and a steamy bar and dance floor on the 3rd level. Weekends feature mostly hip-hop music on the 3rd floor. Hip-hop format attracts younger multi-racial crowd and lesbians as well. Happy Hour till 7 pm and all day Monday. Cover on weekend nights.
When to go: Friday/Saturday nights, Wednesday is the “Get-Wet” underwear contest, Thursday is the “Amateur Strip Show” and Sunday is the Lashes show. All events are hosted by Chablis.
Cover charge of $10 at Neighbors and $7 at RPlace are not worth it. In bars and clubs in SF, LA and NY, if there’s a cover charge the bars surely deliver. They provide awesome music, great DJs spinning, and a crowd that’s in the party mood.
WTF is the cover charge for? I was in RPlace last night. The music was subpar, the DJ worthless, the videos a mix bag of old and new with no rhyme or reason, the crowd a yawn, the interior outdated with mix-match stools and dirty lounge sofa, and the bartenders looked bored. And none of the twinks out on their allowance or big-boned lesbians were drinking. But, yes 7 bucks a head! We headed out and promised never again.
Cover charge in Seattle gay bars is like sunshine in the dead of winter. Unexpected and despite of the mood is still gray. This will be the demise of gay bars — if you charge, better deliver in return.
R Place is fun, the line can get a little long on Saturdays, but Fridays there is hardly a line at all. The place is always packed with people on the weekends.
I prefer a good dance floor, then a place to chill and regain my energy. This place has 3 floors, a dance floor on top, and the lower 2 floors are good for socializing.
The security staff seem nice, unlike some other joints on the hill (neighbors) and the bartenders serve up a stiff one.
I enjoy being there, it is not for everyone, so if you are young, or like to act young and have a good time, R Place is the place. If you are old, and boring, R Place is your place, just stay on the first floor!
