Most have already heard the news that the sponsor of the Pride March on Broadway in Seattle is the latest gay group in financial trouble. The LGBT Community Center, the sponsor of the Broadway Pride March and QueerFest on Capitol Hill, is reportedly likely to close by the end of the year. Earlier this year Seattle Out and Proud, which sponsors the downtown Pride Parade, nearly cancelled the downtown Pride Parade after revealing it was $100,000 in debt. The downtown Pride Parade attracts over 200,000 spectators.
Over at seaQwa.com on QBlog Robin Evans suggests that the LGBT Community Center is “neither an ‘institution’ or hugely ‘important.'”
However, it sad to see the all hard work put forth by the remaining staff members go to waste. It is a shame to see the hard work and effort put into the QArts program at the LGBT Center go to waste. There will be a Reception for QArts on Saturday evening December 8. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be served but donations are always gratefully accepted. This sounds to me like a critical time when they could use some “support.”
