Charlton Heston, the former gay icon who campaigned with John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King and later turned ultra conservative gun rights activist as head of the NRA has died at age 84.
Heston played the title character in the movie Ben Hur, which the screenwriter Gore Vidal claimed had a gay subtext, but Heston had denied that fact.
