Pacific Northwest Ballet announces their 2008-2009 season. Highlights include two premieres by Twyla Tharp created specially for PNB, a full evening of George Balanchine Jewels, a Broadway festival of works celebrating the Great White Way, PNB’s hugely popular Swan Lake, and new works by such dance luminaries as Benjamin Millepied, Mark Morris, and Christopher Wheeldon.
Subscriptions to the 2008-2009 season are available now. Single tickets for the subscription season, as well as Nutcracker, go on sale to the general public Monday, July 21, 2008.
2008-2009 SUBSCRIPTION SEASON
Rep I – ALL THARP
(September 25–October 5, 2008)
With choreography by Twyla Tharp this performance offers several pieces including Nine Sinatra Songs with songs sung by Frank Sinatra.
American dance icon Twyla Tharp has permanently expanded the horizons of contemporary dance with her fusion of meticulous classical rigor and elements from jazz, modern dance and pop culture.
Rep II – NEW WORKS
November 6–16, 2008
This will include the PNB premiere of A Garden by choreographer Mark Morris, two world premieres by rising dancer/choreographers Kiyon Gaines and Benjamin Millepied and the return of One Flat Thing, reproduced by the ever-provocative William Forsythe.
Rep III – GEORGE BALANCHINE JEWELS
(January 29–February 8, 2009)
The gems in Jewels pay tribute to three golden ages of dance and also to the beauty of the ballerinas George Balanchine adored. Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds will dazzle with each shimmering wave of classical elegance.
Rep IV – BROADWAY FESTIVAL
(March 12–22, 2009)
PNB’s salute to Broadway offers marvelously entertaining premieres such as Balanchine’s Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, created for the musical On Your Toes, offers a parody of Broadway, Russian ballet and the mob. Also premiering is Richard Rodgers’ Carousel (A Dance) and West Side Story by Jerome Robbins. Susan Stroman returns with TAKE FIVE … More or Less.
Rep V – SWAN LAKE

Classical ballet at its thrilling best and the most beloved ballet story of all time – PNB’s magnificent Swan Lake, famous for its romantic, treachery-laced plot and enchanted setting, returns to the McCaw Hall stage where it last played to standing-room-only audiences.

OPENING GALA
The Season Opening Gala is Saturday, September 20, 2008. Toast PNB’s new season with the annual Season Preview Performance. Patrons can choose to enjoy the season-sampling performance with a champagne intermission, or opt to make it a complete red carpet evening by joining the artists for a Gala supper in the wings, followed by Seattle’s best-dressed on-stage post-performance dance party.
NUTCRACKER – 25th Anniversary! 1,000th Performance!
(November 28–December 30, 2008)
PNB’s Nutcracker celebrates its 25th Anniversary and 1,000th performance in 2008. Special guests, surprise appearances and McCaw Hall shimmering with light and merriment promise this year’s Nutcracker will be the most festive event of the season.
