I know, you’re thinking “square” dancing…..WRONG! This “ain’t yer Grandma’s square dancin!”, this is GAY square dancing and we bend the rules more than a bit. No matchy-matchy costumes or frilly dresses (unless you want to). Anybody can dance as a “boy” or “girl”, and, move aside Gene Autry, we also dance to Salsa, Sinatra, Madonna and showtunes.
Puddletown Squares, Seattle’s ONLY remaining square dance club, has been a part of Seattle’s LGBT community for over 25 years. Open to absolutely anyone, and they’re offering you a chance to “give it a whirl” for the next 3 Thursday nights to find out what it’s all about.
This Thursday, Aug 28th, will be an evening for you to come get a “taste” of what Modern Western Square Dancing is all about. The fun will take place just north of Greenlake, at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, at 80th St. and 1st Ave N (bus route #16), from 7-9pm. More info is available at their website: www.puddletowndancers.org.
They will also be beginning a new 20 week series of square dance lessons just after Labor Day. Stop by any of the next few Thursday nights to see how much fun it is and “give it a whirl” with a group of friends, or come for the first couple of weeks after Labor Day and really get a “taste” of the fun and new friends!
