Jet City Hoops, Seattle’s new co-ed gay basketball league, completed its inaugural season on Saturday, January 10th by crowning Plan B as league champion. Led by an all-around strong team performance, Plan B defeated a feisty Super Hoopers team to win the Fall Division Crown.
The game was the culmination of a nine week season and playoff tournament. Later Saturday night a season-ending awards ceremony was held at Purr where many player awards such as MVP and Drama Queen were awarded in front of a packed house.
Jet City Hoops initial season featured a co-ed league made up of 8 teams featuring men and women of all skill levels. “It was a great first season,” said Mike Hamstra, League Commissioner. “We had an incredible mix of over 70 players turn out to play this season and we even ended the season with a waiting list, but it wouldn’t have happened without the help of the community and our generous financial sponsors Purr, Elite, Changes in Wallingford, Paggliacci Pizza, Madison Pub as well as additional community support from Babeland, Seattle Gay Scene and SGN.
Registration is now open for Jet City Hoops’ Spring league which run Saturday’s from Feb 21 – May 9. The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 13th. Players are divided by skill level and placed on teams to ensure a level playing court and everyone plays, every game. “It was a fun experience,” says Jet City Hoops player Jeff Maxwell “I hope even more people turn out for the Spring Season.
