Although we all know the story of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, do we really know what Robert Louis Stevenson had in mind? Perhaps it was a look into his own life? No one really knows for sure.
All we know is that the story is all too familiar in the theatre and book. There have been musicals made of this story and now comes this brand new tale. It is really good. The acting is intense, the story original, and the unique part of this production is that everyone in the cast plays the part of Mr. Hyde. What? that’s right, I don’t want to spoil anything so I will simply say that this is a play for the open-minded and those that like true English literature. The cast is wonderful, the set is simple, with a few surprises along the way. Whatever you do, don’t take your children to this play! This is directed by local actor turned director R. Hamilton Wright. You may have seen him recently as the racist business owner in the 5th Avenue Theatre’s production of Memphis.
This is a great story and well acted, so be sure and catch it while you can! Perhaps you too will have a dream that you are another person somewhere inside.
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde at the ACT THEATRE runs April 10th – May 10th. More info and tickets are available online at www.acttheatre.org.
