Come have a cocktail, bring your mom, and learn more about how you can become an lgbt rights organizer in your community.
In less than one week, Vermont and Iowa legalized marriage equality and the District of Columbia decided to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across the country on November 15, 2008, in the largest national protests for lgbt rights in decades. As millions around the country wait anxiously for the California Supreme Court’s ruling on Proposition 8 and Washington stands on the verge of full domestic partnership legislation, what comes next in the civil rights movement of this generation?
Prop 8 Day of Decision Reminder: The California Supreme Court has until June 5 to issue its ruling on the Prop 8 case. Court rulings are announced on Tuesday and Friday mornings. A public notice will be sent out the day prior to the ruling be issued. On the day the ruling comes out, the Day of Decision, people in California, here in Seattle, and around the country will be coming together to either celebrate or to protest. Keep your eyes, ears, and emails open for the announcement of the decision and on that day at 5:30 pm, head on down to Westlake Center because marriage equality is WAY overdue in Washington.
