Red Star in Bremerton is Kitsap County’s hottest gay night and growing larger every month. April was their biggest night ever and they plan an even bigger MAYDAY! event on Friday May 1, 2009 that will feature the fabulous talent of DJ Matt Stands, who is a resident DJ at Cuff Complex.
The Red Star organizer had the following observation:
I am impressed with the diversity we are seeing every month. We attract a good mix of men and women. Oh and some great queer friendly folks too. The crazy thing last month was that we shot up to 100 people within the first hour the doors were open. Our average for this year is 150 party people up from 100 last year.
The best news is that after expenses they are now able to give money back to the community and will help sponsor the stage at their local pride event on Saturday, July 18 at Evergreen Park in Bremerton.
MAYDAY Red Star is Friday May 1, 2009. Doors open at 9pm – 2am and is 21+. Cover is $5 at the door and the drinks at the bar are reasonably priced but are cash only. There is an ATM downstairs and a WaMu ATM located on the same block.
Enter the Eagles Lodge upstairs at 205 6th street in Bremerton, WA [map]. There is plenty of parking available in the area and most of it is free but the lot next to the Eagles on Washington is reserved for their members – these are the good people who allow their hall to be turned into a big gay bar.
Coming by boat? The brand new Bremerton Marina is gorgeous!
Red Star is usually held on the First Friday of each month which coincides with the Downtown Bremerton Art Walk. Go early and check out the galleries that are all just a short walk from Red Star. Also, there are some great places to catch a bite to eat. There is Anthony’s by the ferry, New Delhi Indian Cuisine and El Coral Mexican on 4th.

Get a room! Because the last ferry from Bremerton back to Seattle is at 11:40pm, The Hampton Inn & Suites offers some great “Guaranteed” low rates, including breakfast and free Wi-Fi. It is located next to the ferry terminal on the waterfront and walking distance from the party.
And, of course, Bremerton’s waterfront is reportedly a great space in relation to Seattle after Bremerton’s Mayor Cary Bozeman recently called Seattle’s waterfront “an insult to American ingenuity.”
