An online gay social movement in the area is slowly building up their Facebook group “Gay People in Seattle” in their quest for 1000 members.
The group’s purpose is intended to provide a social environment that encourages members to chat, make friends, professionally network and build community but that can be difficult in Facebook’s closed system unless someone is specifically your online “friend” so it is through some recently organized face-to-face social functions that the deeper purpose is finally coming to fruition.
The group’s last event was held at Cafe Metropolitain and the atmosphere was electric, friendly and real unlike your typical bar scene. One group member’s comments immediately following the April event:
Wow, this group tonight was incredible. So friendly and such positive energy! I’ll definitely be back next time!
The group is organized by Ulises Mark Chavez, Colby Clark, Geoff Tucker and Jim Hedington and on Thursday May 28, they will have their “May Social” at Tap House Grill in downtown Seattle from 6pm – 9pm. Co-hosting the event will be The Starbucks Pride Alliance Network.
Their “May Social” at Tap House Grill already has well over 100 confirmed attendees and an additional nearly 200 people that maybe will attend. Also in attendance will be other Seattle area LGBT groups from Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Alaska Air, Deloitte and others. They will also have some “fantastic” giveaways, so bring your business cards if you want to enter their raffle
