The Bend It Extravaganza, “Radical, Queer, and All Ages since 2003”, returns for Pride weekend in Seattle.
For the past five years, Bend-It has had the exclusive goal of organizing a three-day arts festival during the weekend of the Seattle Pride Parade in June. We designed our festival as a meaningful, non-corporate, proactively inclusive alternative to Pride, hosting community artists-led workshops, concerts, photography exhibits, film festivals, fashion/drag/burlesque shows, and spoken poetry open mic nights. We have encouraged DIY (do-it-yourself) and DIT (do-it-together) mentalities by offering reciprocal skill-building workshops—as opposed to top-down, one-way interactions.
Events begin on Friday, June 26 3pm with “the Queer Garden” at Cal Anderson Park. Performances by Thee Satsfaction, MKNG FRNDZ, The Redwood Plan, My Parade, The Get Off, Lesbianic and a screening of Stonewall at dusk.
On Saturday, June 27, it’s the return of the Big Gay Field Day at Cal Anderson Park from 11am – 2pm, followed by Short Films at the NW Film Forum from 3pm – 6pm. And finally, a Fruit Cocktail Variety Show 7pm at Cal Anderson Park.
On Sunday, June 28, it’s workshops at Vera Project at Seattle Center from 3pm – 4:30pm followed by Waxx Poetic at 6pm.
“Bent It” events are free, non-corporate and all ages.
