As George Bakan from the Seattle Gay News put it “Decline to Sign is so over…the campaign to win is on”. It could take the Secretary of State weeks to verify the signatures for Referendum 71. This campaign has instantly gone from “Decline to Sign” to “YES on Ref. 71”.
We may become too fixated on the signature counting. If we wait to start getting the YES message out there only after we hear the results of the signature count the statewide ballots will be mailed soon after that with very little time to get the message out.
Baken continues, “Worrying about their petition drive is NOT our message, neither is the verify process.” The YES message on Ref. 71 must take center stage now, not following the signature counting.
More info is available here.
Also, WhoSigned.org has checked it out and contrary to previous information, petitions become public record when they are submitted and scanned by the Elections Division. That group will soon be doing their pledge of posting the information for those people that signed Ref. 71 at www.whosigned.org.
