‘The New Gay’ comes to town

September 15, 2009• bySeattle Gay Scene

The nations most respected alternagay website “The New Gay” will debut their “Homo/Sonic” party on the west coast at Chapel on Wednesday September 16, 2009 with DJ Zack Rosen and Tony B.

The party, dubbed an “alternative co-ed dance party for queer folks and their friends,” is also a fundraiser for Washington Families Standing Together (wafst.org) to approve Referendum 71.

Rosen’s DC residency typically makes him a feature in east coast venues; however, through thenewgay.net he and his partner have built a national following and garnered substantial media attention. They describe Homo/Sonic as, “all manners of indie, alternative, retro… but all good music.”

Rosen hopes that his visit will increase both his reputation as a DJ and promote The New Gay, an online community he founded with his partner, Michael Eichler. The two started the site on the principles that, “We all agree that the mainstream definition of “gay” isn’t just a sexual orientation, it’s a white male culture defined by consumerism, superficiality and anti-intellectualism. We don’t fit into this narrow matrix. We don’t want to. We choose to unplug. We choose the red pill.”
