We will be adding more productions soon, so check back often.
Lots of performances to talk about this year:
Seattle Men’s Chorus celebrates 30 years with their production of Santa Baby at Benaroya Hall. The first weekend, Nov 28-29, features a very special guest Broadway legend Betty Buckley. This show will feature a mixture of both new and old with some of their classic favorites such as Silent Night. Their holiday show is the best of the year so you definitely don’t want to miss it.
Seattle Women’s Chorus are Making Spirits Bright, Dec 19-20, with their heavenly and angelic voices that will leave your inner child delighted.
Two totally gay productions to mention with HOMO for the Holidays at the OddFellows Building on Dec 4 & 5, 2009. Featuring Fuchsia Foxxx, Ben DeLaCreme, Ms. Honeysuckle Hype, Cherdonna & Lou Henry Hoover, ULTRA and special guests Waxie Moon on Friday and Shanghai Pearl on Saturday.
Neighbours Nightclub will feature a Holiday Show to Remember on Saturday Dec 12, 2009 at 6:30pm for just $5.
Also, A Cabaret Winter Wonderland with Arnaldo! is at Julia’s on Broadway for three Sundays, Nov 6, 13 & 20, 2009 along with Victor Janusz on the keys with his jazz trio. This event sells out every year so get your tickets early.
Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt are Ham for the Holidays at Theatre Off Jackson for their 9th annual holiday production as they serve up another steamin’ portion of pork.
Dina Martina returns to Rebar, with assistance from Chris Jefferies, for her–oh so popular–Christmas Show with dates selling out well in advance. Sundays now feature a 2pm matinee with a T-dance that follows the Sunday show at 4pm with DJ Dana Dub.
In The Judy Garland Christmas Special, TV producers have decided to tape a nice Christmas special at Judy Garland’s home. Everything is set and they’re ready to tape – but where the heck is Judy? When she finally shows up on the tail end of a 24-hour bender, it will take all they can do to keep her pinballing around the set and away from the booze. Now playing at the Open Circle Theater in Belltown.
The Anita Goodmann Experience “Holiday Super-Spectacular” at Rendezvous Jewel Box Theater is Dec 10 with some holiday cheer, including Jolly Santa, Angry Elves, Alcoholic Animals and the two drag queens that make it all happen.
The Tudor Choir presents Handel’s Messiah, along with the Seattle Baroque Orchestra, on December 12 & 13 at Town Hall in Seattle and a holiday performance of Christmas in Olde England on Saturday, December 26 at the historic Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle’s University District.
Here are even more shows coming your way this holiday season:
Nutcracker at Pacific Northwest Ballet (Nov 27 – Dec 30):
Pacific Northwest Ballet’s cherished Stowell/Sendak Nutcracker returns to light up Seattle Center’s McCaw Hall in the only production of its kind in the world. PNB’s Nutcracker combines charming and dramatic choreography with magnificent sets and costumes by renowned author and illustrator Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are) and features the live magic of the PNB Orchestra and more than 200 roles danced by PNB’s professional dancers and students. The Northwest’s favorite holiday tradition.

A Christmas Carol at ACT Theatre (Nov 27 – Dec 27, 2009):
ACT Theatre presents its 34th annual production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This is truly my favorite tradition of the holiday season since it is performed in ACT’s Allen Theatre, a beautiful and intimate theatre-in-the-round.
Not only do Kurt Beattie and R. Hamilton Wright direct A Christmas Carol but it also features both of them alternating in the role of Scrooge, with Beattie returning to the role for the first time in more than a decade.
A Christmas Carol is profoundly theatrical. It doesn’t rely on massive pieces of scenery to create its magic. It’s pure storytelling.
Many shows sell out in advance so buy your tickets now.
Sisters Christmas Catechism at ACT Theatre (Nov 27 – Jan 3, 2010):
From the author of ACT Theatre’s past hit Late Nite Catechism, it’s “Forensic Files goes to Bethlehem” in this holiday mystery extravaganza as Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages: whatever happened to the Magi’s gold?
Employing her own scientific tools, as well as a gaggle of audience members, Sister creates a living nativity unlike any you’ve ever seen.
More info and tickets are available at www.acttheatre.org.
White Christmas at 5th Avenue Theatre (Nov – Dec):
This joyous adaptation of the classic film returns for the first time since it played to sold-out audiences in 2006.
When two showbiz gents team up with a beautiful sister act to save a country inn, the result is a sparkling holiday package bursting with cheerful dancing, treasured tunes and a generous helping of yuletide cheer.
With Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin. Visit www.5thavenue.org.
Black Nativity at Intiman Theatre (Dec 1 – 27, 2009):
And if you are not dreaming of a White Christmas maybe Black Nativity is your show in its 12th and final year at Intiman Theatre. This holiday favorite features 40 singers, dancers and musicians.
With music direction and arrangements by Pastor Patrinell Wright, Seattle’s “Gospel Queen” and founder of the Total Experience Gospel Choir and written by Langston Hughes, the production is a showcase for gospel music performed by soloists from churches and stages across King County; gravity-defying choreography and tap in the tradition of past dance legends; and an on-stage band.
Tickets from December 1-13 are on sale for just $25. Tickets from December 15-27 are $45. For more info and tickets, visit www.intiman.org.
Plaid Tidings at ArtsWest (Dec 2 – 27, 2009):
Back in West Seattle by Popular Demand! In Plaid Tidings, The Plaids (Frankie, Sparky, Jinx, and Smudge) from Forever Plaid are transported back from the ethereal cosmos to croon their tight harmonic renditions of musical hits from the ’50s and ’60s. Suddenly, as ordered by a heavenly phone call from Rosemary Clooney, they stage a nostalgic holiday extravaganza for world-weary mortals on Earth…including a new episode of “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
Tickets are $32 or just $10 for those under 25. Visit www.artswest.org for details.
Radio City Christmas Spectacular at The Paramount:
The world-famous Radio City Rockettes® bring their eye-high kicks and a cast and crew of over 100 back to Seattle. Parents enjoy the flawless precision of the Rockettes in numbers such as the legendary “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.” Children thrill as Santa takes them on a magical ride to his workshop at the North Pole, where playful rag dolls come to life!

Rudolph: The Next Verse from Jet City Improv (Dec 3 – 9, 2009):
A comic look at a favorite holiday story, as we discover what happens to Rudolph after that fateful stormy night. Each night Rudolph will be narrated by an audience-interactive computer-animated snowman, who will take suggestions from the audience to create the next chapter of Rudolph’s tale. A completely different show will be created every night. No two performances will be the same. At the Historic University Theater and tickets are just $10.
(Warning: May contain scenes of reindeer discrimination and scary Christmas monsters but it is suitable for ages 5+)
