Seattle Poetry Slam at Rebar featuring Robbie Q.

January 12, 2010• bySeattle Gay Scene

This will be Seattle Poetry Slam’s first night at Rebar Tuesday, January 12, 2010, with special guest, poet Robbie Q. Telfer. Every Tuesday night at Rebar the Seattle Poetry Slam hosts a spoken word blow-out with an Open Mic at 8:30pm, a featured Poet at 9pm, and “SLAM” at 10pm.

THE SLAM is a performance poetry competition with three simple rules:

  • Poets must perform their own original work
  • No props, costumes or musical accompaniment
  • Poets have three minutes to perform their piece
  • Each poet earns a score between 0 and 10 awarded by randomly-picked judges from the audience. Scores are based on content, originality and performance. The winning poets get prizes and a chance at representing Seattle on the national and international level.

Robbie Q. Telfer has been a featured performer in dozens of poetry shows throughout North America, including Toronto, Detroit, Oakland, Austin, St. Louis, Honolulu, Boston, and Providence, as well as the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City and the Green Mill in Chicago. While his work can be found in several slam poetry anthologies and DVDs through the Wordsmith Press and elsewhere, he also helps to bridge the divide between stage and page poetry by publishing poetry and criticism in places like the Cream City Review, Octopus Magazine, and American Book Review. Unrelated to poetry, he also wrote dialog for the Nintendo DS video game Ninjatown.
