Seattle Erotic Art Festival Undulates Into Town April 30th For A Weekend of Titillating Art Exhibits

March 25, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

You know spring is here when the sessy, sessy people at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival begin sending out press releases about their annual art show dedicated to the sultrier side of the visual arts:

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival supports a vibrant creative community, promotes freedom of expression, and fosters sex-positive culture though public celebration of the arts.

In LAYMEN’S terms, that means a weekend of paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations and performances showcasing your favorite parts of the human anatomy, genteelly referred to as “the bathing suit area”.

Among the artists represented this year will be local artists Troy Gua, Sara Lanzillotta, Shaun Kardinal, Charles Krafft and Ellen Forney and from further afield, David Steinberg, Michele Serchuk, Michael Rosen, Michael Manning and Nancy Peach.

Guest Director Roger Benington will stage a new and unique stage stage for the festival, titled “Cabaret de Curiositiés” starring many local burlesque stars including Dirty Martini and Waxie Moon with a set design by Jennifer Zeyl.

And, the Festival is still seeking submissions for a program of short erotic films that is being curated by Jason Plourde, programming director of Three Dollar Bill Cinema. If you have an original, SHORT film to submit, the deadline is April 4th and go here for forms and guidelines.

This festival has moved all over town in its history but has settled into the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall for this year’s show opening Friday, April 30th with hours noon to 2am, then continuing Saturday, May 1st with hours noon to 4am and concluding on Sunday, May 3rd with the popular Open House, noon to 4pm, the only day with FREE admission. The show is STRICTLY 18+ until 6pm, and 21+ after 6pm, ID required for admittance!

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets. Mark your calendars, NOW! I’ve gone to this show before and it has something for everyone…straight, gay, bi, trans, queer, kink and every combination you can think of…which also means there will be images of things you NEVER want to see, so come prepared.

Also, don’t eat the bread…one year a woman was giving out samples of bread made with her own personal body yeast…if that’s your thing, great, otherwise stick with Wonder Bread or maybe a nice pita…

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
