The Tony Award winning musical Fiddler on the Roof is coming to Seattle’s Paramount Theatre May 25-30, 2010. Audiences will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Jerome Robbins’ original Broadway direction and choreography, complete with the star of the record breaking Broadway production, Harvey Fierstein who can also be seen on the upcoming seasons of Nurse Jackie and How I Met Your Mother.
The gravel-voiced openly gay actor gained notoriety when he won Tony Awards in 1983 for both writing and acting in Torch Song Trilogy. Since then he has shined on Broadway and has had prominent but smaller roles in many films including a notable one as Robin Williams’ makeup-artist brother in the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire.
The eight performances of Fiddler on the Roof in Seattle bring with it such unforgettable songs as “Sunrise, Sunset” and the rousing “If I Were A Rich Man” along with the exuberant “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and the triumphant “Tradition.”
A perennial hit since it first opened in 1964, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has enjoyed critical acclaim for bringing to the stage a poignant story about the enduring bonds of the family. Now, the national touring production of this timeless musical brings the wit and wisdom of Tevye and his family to audiences throughout the United States with the reproduction of Jerome Robbins’ famous masterpiece.
