More Theater Beat: On The Boards NW New Works Festival starts this weekend!

June 3, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

The fine, fine theater artists at On The Boards are wrapping up their season, (or, is this the start of their new season?), with their annual Northwest New Works Festival which starts this Friday, June 4 and runs this entire weekend, and continues NEXT weekend, June 11-13. There’s something for EVERYONE in this festival: theater, music, dance, (well, there’s no ‘rasslin’ that I’m aware of, but you can’t make everyone happy…)Here’s the line-up for the festival:

Weekend 1 | Studio Theater Showcase
June 4 at 8pm & June 5 – 6 at 5pm
The Mint Collective (Ivory Smith, Kelli Frances Corrado and Joseph Gray) – Music
Paul Budraitis – Theater
Mike Pham – Theater
The Cherdonna and Lou Show – Dance Theater

Weekend 1 | Mainstage Theater Showcase
June 5 – 6 at 8pm
AmyO/tinyrage – Dance
Danny Herter & The Invasive Species – Dance Theater
Josephine’s Echopraxia – Dance | Live Music
Mark Haim – Dance

Weekend 2 | Studio Theater Showcase
June 11 at 8pm & June 12 – 13 at 5pm
The Satori Group – Theater
Erin Leddy – Theater (Portland)
Lily Verlaine – Dance
Charles Smith – Theater

Weekend 2 | Mainstage Theater Showcase
June 12 – 13 at 8pm
Lingo – Dance
The Offshore Project – Dance
Corrie Befort – Dance | Live Music
Laara Garcia/Pseudopod Interactive – Dance Theater

It’s like a big candy box of goodies for alternative theater lovers…just don’t sample any of the treats and put them back in the box. It’s not considered “safe”…I wish I could see ALL of this festival, but I had to limit myself to one showcase…we’ll talk about it, after I experience it.

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
