WORD: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings were AMAZING at the Showbox SoDo on Monday!

June 24, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

Just thought you should know that…if you ever get an opportunity to see Miss Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in person, don’t be a FOOL and do it! Even if you don’t like her brand of retro funk, (and, you should!) the lady (and her wonderful band) put on an AWESOME night of entertainment; tons of energy and wit and soul and humor and passion. Superb performers and check them out in action, HERE!

As for this great photo, by Christopher Nelson Photography and snagged off Flickr, check out the trumpet player behind Sharon Jones…the dude was a great musician AND super sexy AND he was juicy as hell…we were standing on that side of the house and had a superb view of him and the man must have sweated out about four gallons of water! It was just streaming down his face and his pants were drenched with sweat by the end of the night…it was kind of gross and kind of hot as well…Oh, and check out this great shot of the opening band, The Heavy…they were pretty awesome as well. We also met a very interesting couple at the show, Nancy and Sayid, but we didn’t get a photo of them…however, we did get the very full details of Nancy’s eventful life and her reactions to turning 50 recently as well as a lot of TMI on some very personal stuff…LUV YA, NANCY! Happy 5-0!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
