You have TWO good reasons to go to the movies, this weekend (besides all the junk at your local Metroplex…)Before you check out All About Evil at the Egyptian on Saturday, you can head to Cal Anderson Park on Friday, July 16 to check out the first, FREE, outdoor summer screening from the folks at Three Dollar Bill Cinema, the purveyors of The Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and other queer cinema throughout the year. The theme of this summer’s series is “Blonde, but Not Forgotten” and features films starring some of Hollywood’s most famous blondes. Things kick off on Friday with the ULTIMATE Hollywood Blonde, Marilyn Monroe and her starring role in the classic 1953 musical directed by Howard Hawks, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. Co-starring a very amazing Brunette, the curvaceous Jayne Russell, this iconic film is best remembered for the “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” production number featuring Marilyn, a sexy pink dress, tons of diamonds and a buttload of hunky male dancers all choreographed by legendary choreographer Jack Cole that has since become a much imitated/hommaged cultural touchpoint. It all goes down on Friday night at Cal Anderson, it’s free, it’s family friendly, and the show starts at sunset (8:30 to 9ish) but get their early to mark out your territory. And, for future information, the next film in the series will be “The Legend of Billie Jean” on Friday, July 30. Check them ALL out!
