Please note, these aren’t the Main Event Emmys which happen on August 29! The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are the technical and Guest Star stuff too “boring” for Primetime…
Out actor Neil Patrick Harris wins his first Emmy for guest starring on “Glee”. (Mr Harris is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for “How I Met Your Mother” which will be announced on the main show on August 29.) Later in the show, NPH scored a second Emmy for hosting the Tony Awards last (2009) year, an award he almost didn’t receive as his name was mistakenly left off the ballot for that nomination which was noticed by a writer at the Los Angeles Times and was later corrected. Harris thanked the writer in his acceptance speech for the award and commented on it backstage to reporters.
And, America’s Aged Sweetheart, Betty White wins her 778th Emmy for hosting “SNL” (but wasn’t present to accept the award) and John Lithgow wins in the Guest Actor Drama category for his grisly turn on “Dexter”. The iconic Ann-Margaret received the only standing ovation of the night for her win as Guest Actress on a Drama for her performance on “Law & Order: SVU”. (See, it pays to play a child murderer/cannibal/goat rapist on everyone’s favorite “L&O”!)
Other wins of note: “Robot Chicken” wins best Animated Series; Ken Burns “National Parks: America’s Best Idea” wins for Best Non-fiction Series; Anne Hathaway wins for her voice acting on “The Simpsons”, (really?); and Jeff Probst wins for the third time in a row as Best Reality Host for “Survivor”, (I love the Probst and he deserved to win the first one, but c’mon; share the love! Seacrest and Bergeron need a little statue on the mantle, too!)
Oh, and the “Old Spice” commercial, “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” with the hunkalicious Isaiah Mustafa very deservedly wins for Best Commercial…though I also really loved the Snickers commercial with Aretha Franklin as the “Diva” in the backseat, too…
Don’t forget to check out the main Emmy show on Sunday, August 29 on NBC…will NPH make it a three for three clean sweep?
Added Info: The Creative Arts Emmy Show will be televised, in an edited form, next FRIDAY, August 27 on E! for folks wanting to revel in NPH’s Emmy wins…
