Some crazy singer is performing tonight at the Tacoma Dome and everyone and their sister is going gaga over the news…what’s that all about? (and, no, I’m not the slightest bit bitter and resentful that I’m not going…not at ALL, so SHUT UP about it and leave me to my slight temperture, excessive amount of mucus and viewing of “Lidia’s Italy” tonight…)(Oh, and didjaknow Lidia was in Seattle the other day, visiting the Overlords of the Literary World at Amazon.com? Did anyone SEE her? Let me know; I LOVE HER!
Also visiting the Puget Sound Metroplex is beloved National Public Radio Megastar, Ira Glass in a show described on the Benaroya website as:
Ira Glass: “Radio Stories and Other Stories”
“This American Life” host and producer, IRA GLASS, will give you a chance to look under the hood of his public radio broadcast, showing what does and doesn’t make for a compelling radio story. Glass will dissect the process of taking raw material – monologues, interviews, recorded events – and creating compelling narratives. He will also play clips from his program and recreate the sound of his radio show onstage.
When I checked at 1pm they had a few tickets left; now those are gone, too! AND, I would tell you that you could get your Ira Glass fix at Re-bar tonight where he’ll be djing with Dan Savage, (of all people, since Dan only likes show tunes) but that’s ALSO sold out so I don’t even know why I bother to write this…I guess you can lurk outside the stage door if you feel the need to gaze upon the awesomeness of Ira Glass…
Not sold out and FREE is the book event at Elliot Bay Books tonight promoting the publication of Gay City’s new anthology, Re-Pulped featuring gloriously pulpy/sexy stories from LGBT writer and artists from the area. It’s an amazing work…let’s learn more about tonight’s event, shall we?
Editor Vincent Kovar and Gay City’s deputy director Peter Jabin are joined by a number of writer/artist contributors this evening to celebrate the publication of Gay City, Volume 3: Re-Pulped (Gay City Health Project). A collection of photographs, comics, stories, essays, and poetry, this anthology also includes selections from contemporary artists and queer pioneers, all working across genres to redefine what gay was, is, and might be. Seattle’s Gay City Health Project is a multicultural gay men’s health organization working to promote the health of gay and bisexual men, and to prevent HIV transmission by building community. For more information on this vital group and its work, please see www.gaycity.org—and be here at Elliott Bay this evening.
The event is 6pm to 7:30 at Elliot Bay Books, 1521 Tenth Avenue in its new location on Capitol Hill. Please check it out.
