Stuff to Do, Wednesday, August 25: Head to the Paramount for the soulful sounds of Rufus Wainwright…

August 25, 2010• bySeattle Gay Scene

Tickets are still available for tonight’s Rufus Wainwright concert at The Paramount with special guest (and sister) Martha Wainwright. The best Canadian export since poutine, this multi-talented singer, composer and actor has been called “the greatest songwriter on the planet” by no less than an authority than Elton John, (no slouch himself…) Tonight’s concert will feature two sets, the first featuring music from Wainwright’s latest album “All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu” and accompanied by a film directed by Douglas Gordon. It should be a moving and emotional set; the album was written and recorded while Wainwright’s mother, acclaimed folk singer Kate McGarrigle was dying of cancer and critics have called the album, Wainwright’s most personal and intimate to date. Obviously the first set will be a little darker in tone; wisely, the second set will be more of a standard, “Greatest Hits” line-up featuring his best loved songs and hits and should end the evening on a lighter note.
