Oh Glee, where is the magic we have come to expect from you? The much promoted “Britney/Brittany” episode aired last night to mixed reviews. It had some cute moments but didn’t leave us wanting more like the Madonna or Lady Gaga episodes. One of the biggest problems with this episode is there was no plot. No storyline. The Britney songs were loosely strung together through nitrous oxide charged fantasies at the dentist visits. The dentist was played by John Stamos, whose character’s name is Carl Howell and he’s Emma’s new boyfriend. Stamos looks good (Editor’s Note: DAMN good!) and natural, not all botoxed out like a lot of celebrities. We admire that! (Editor: We’d admire it more if he had done a musical number wearing a g-string…)
Britney appeared as herself , making a couple of cameos throughout the episode. We were disappointed. We were hoping to see some singing and dancing from her! But, Heather Morris who plays Brittany S. Pierce, the other Brittany, did a great number to “I’m a Slave 4 U”. She was dressed up in all of the old school iconic Britney looks. The girl can dance! We were totally impressed with her moves.
Brittany Pierce and Santana Lopez danced to “Me Against the Music” the Britney and Madonna song. Rachel Berry ignited every Gleeky teen boy pubescent fantasy with her version of “Baby One More Time!”
Will Schuester, worked through his jealousy of Emma’s new boyfriend by buying a sports car and serenading her with his jam “Sailing”. Artie Abrams bored us with his football fantasy set to “Stronger”.
Will Schuester with New Directions, caused a Britney Spear sex riot while performing “Toxic” at the school assembly. It was nice to see Mr. Shue performing. We always feel a little sad for him, since we learned that he makes $30K per episode, which is the same amount that Snooki gets for an episode of Jersey Shore.
Rachel Berry belted out her weekly solo with New Directions signing backup. She sang the Paramore song “The Only Exception” to Finn. We got it, you have an amazing voice. You are the best singer on the show. (Editor respectfully disagrees: Mercedes is better!)
Some of our favorite lines:
Sue to Mr Shue: “You wear more vests than the cast of Blossom.”
Emma to Mr Shue: “You look like a cast member of Kids Incorporated.”
Rachel: “I look forward to the day the paparazzi provokes me and I attack them.”
Sue: “It’s a Britney Spears sex riot!”
Carl: “I’m gonna put you under a little general anesthesia. You won’t feel a thing.”
Brittany: “Like roofies?”
Carl: “Yea, totally.”
Next week episode is “Grilled Cheesus”. Jesus makes an appearance in Finn’s grilled cheese. It will be interesting to see how Glee tackles the subject of religion.
