Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival opens with a whole lotta Bearish love…

October 16, 2010• bySeattle Gay Scene

We, (meaning half the staff of SGS) went to the opening gala of Bear City Friday night and had a lovely time. The movie itself, which screened at the Egyptian, is pretty damn cute and does play like a Bear version of “Sex and the City”. The actors and the characters they played, were adorable and there are some very funny lines in the film. It’s worth checking out and while I’m not sure if it will play theatrically again in Seattle, you can check it out on DVD starting November 16 when the film is released by TLA.

But, half the fun of going to Film Festivals is going to the parties after the screenings. This year’s Opening Gala was at Neumo’s and it was nice to have it so close to the theater and right in the heart of the homohood. The place was packed as audience members crowded in for the chance at some delicious vittles, catered by Qdoba and the chance to mingle with other film fans and the director, Doug Langway and two of the stars of the film, cutie pie actors Joe Conti and Stephen Guarino. Plus, there was the added fun of music by C89.5’s DJ Skiddle and some hot gogo boys and girls shakin’ their moneymakers behind some backlit screens. Only surprising thing about the event: the lack of BEARS in the audience! There were a few, but not nearly as many as I thought there would be…did they all stay home because they are mourning the loss of C.C. Attle’s? What’s up with that??!?!
