It’s amazing that people are still riled up about the Project Runway finale. I couldn’t find one positive article about Gretchen’s win…believe me, I looked.
People are so mad they are boycotting Project Runway, Michael Kors, and Marie Claire Magazine. The Project Runway Facebook page is loaded with comments supporting Mondo. Surprising that the show hasn’t come out with a statement on why they picked Gretchen. Michael and Nina fought for her. But why? That is the $100,000 question.
Project Runway has changed since moving to Lifetime. The show has gotten sappier, more emotional, with lots and lots of tears. They moved the show to LA and then moved it back to NY because fans complained. Really? A fashion show in LA? The challenges used to run over 2-days and this really allowed the designers to be creative. Now most of the challenges are only 24 hours. The show used to be about the designs not the drama. We miss the designs!
Gretchen collection was more “wearable and sale-able”, “she is the future of fashion” according to Kors and Garcia. Most of her collection looks like pieces that you could find off the rack. Some of them remind me of a McCall’s pattern.
Michael Kors compared Mondo to John Galliano, one of the most respected and creative forces in fashion. Tim Gunn blasted the judges for their choice. “Mondo will do fabulously, and Gretchen really needs the money.” Heidi and Jessica also wanted him, yet he lost. Mondo had a great take on the loss, “You know, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Now I’m just going to have to bake another batch”.
Project Runway has left a huge opening in fashion programming. If Bravo gets the 2nd season of The Fashion Show right, it could change everything. The Fashion Show premiers on Tue, Nov 9th, at 10pm. The first season was pretty blah. Isaac Mizrah and Kelly Rowland hosted the first season, but Kelly has been replaced by Iman for season 2. Iman is supposed to be awesomely brutal on the show. We look forward to her sassy and hope the show brings it! Will you be watching?

I would like to leave you with one of my favorite lines from Anthony Williams from season 7, “You don’t have to win the crown, to be the bell of the ball”. Mondo is totally the bell of the Project Runway Season 8.
