Time to start planning our Holiday 2010 activities and outings…that usually includes attending the Seattle Men’s Chorus annual holiday show and this year, they’re going all “Glee-ful” with a tribute to everyone’s favorite TV show. “Holiday Glee” premieres Saturday, November 27 at Benaroya Hall for the first of eight performances in the Puget Sound area, (six in Seattle at Benaroya, and solo outings to Everett Civic Auditorium on December 4 and to Tacoma’s Pantages Theatre on December 2). Expect lots of music inspired by “Glee” including their signature song, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'”…you can see a sneak preview of the Chorus singing that song, on their Facebook page.
If you plan on attending the first two concerts on November 27 and 28, you’ll get the added advantage/treat of Broadway star/Tony nominated actress Kelli O’Hara performing with the chorus. The star of “Light in the Piazza” and Bartlett Sher’s revival of “South Pacific” is a familiar face and voice to Seattle audiences.
Here’s some more skinny on the concerts from the SMC website:
SMC’s annual “gift of the season,” our hugely popular holiday show, this year showcases American music from many locales – everything from Nashville gospel to barbershop harmony to Broadway show tunes to 1950s Vegas swing. The concert will also feature arrangements from Sting’s 2009 holiday CD If On A Winter’s Night… and new a capella arrangements of the great carols of Christmas. We’re also taking our cue from the hit television show Glee, presenting some fun Glee-inspired production numbers, and a hopeful, joyful, mirthful, merry celebration of the TV show’s principal message: “It’s OK to be who you are; more importantly, it’s OK to celebrate who you are.”
