The nerdier parts of the Web are atwitter with the rumor that everyone’s favorite Brittany, Glee actress Heather Morris is being pursued for the lead role in Warner Brother’s reboot of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. We’ve discussed the proposed remake in a previous post, (just a reminder: SGS is officially CON on a BTVS project without the participation of Buffy creator Joss Whedon), but this Heather Morris rumor is new to us. It’s being reported as a fact based rumor, but Warner Brothers and the film’s production staff responded to The Hollywood Reporter that the rumor is baseless.
Screenwriter Whit Anderson, via Twitter, also denied any casting rumors. “Careful what you retweet, loves. Inaccuracy can cause lots of unnecessary stress,” she wrote.
When asked directly about the Morris casting rumor, first reported by sci-fi blog Blastr.com, Anderson replied: “We’re not even *thinking* about casting yet. The script isn’t even written!” she said in a tweet that was later deleted.
Warners also told The Hollywood Reporter that casting is not being discussed until the script is completed.
And, in case you were wondering, the scuttlebutt is that the new version will update Buffy to a college age student and reference her Valley Girl roots…ugh. And, part of the Heather Morris rumor comments on the fact that Ms Morris would be ideal casting due to her flair for her comedy and her skills as a dancer, (perfect for the fight scenes). And, at age 23, she’s the right age for the updated role. I’m not happy about this Whedon-less remake, but at least she would be good casting.
But, why do I see the knuckleheads at Warner Brothers casting Miley Cyrus or some other “tween” queen? Then again, Miley’s 15 minutes of fame are about up…by the time this movie is scheduled to start filming, she should be preparing for a VH1 “Where are They Now?” gig.
