The Moore Theatre is getting all dancy pants tonight with Global Dance Party featuring a variety of dance styles from around the world. Starring special guest choreographers, Napoleon & Tabitha D’Umo who’ve provided the dance moves for “So You Think You Can Dance?”, Timbaland and Beyonce among many others, the show also features tons of local performers. Scheduled to perform for this go round: the Tahitian dance and drum troupe, Te Fare O Tamatoa, the Scottish themed, Seattle Highland Dancing Association and for you hip-hop fans, Vicious Puppies. NAPOLEON & TABITHA D’UMO choreographed a cutting edge new hip hop work with auditioned Seattle area teens. The pair are currently choreographers for America’s Best Dance Crew, Rock the Cradle and So You Think You Can Dance. Based in LA, they have choreographed and/or performed with Celine Dion, Beyonce, Missy Elliot, Toni Braxton, Destiny’s Child and Timbaland.
NW TAP CONNECTION, directed by Melba Ayco, is a distinctive urban dance studio specializing in Rhythm Tap. The group performs a work created for DANCE This 2010 that brings together rhythmically rooted tappers with the percussive explosion of young drumline performers from Pacific Northwest Drumline.
AMY O’NEAL is the Artistic Director, choreographer and performer of the companies locust and amyo/tinyrage. O’neal brings back her contemporary solo from DANCE This 2010, performed by long-time DT emerging artist and current Cornish dance major, Alex Jackson. Originally performed in “Ten Tiny Dances/Seattle” in 2007, The piece is performed on a 4×4 platform is an experiment in compact dynamism.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST DRUMLINE ASSOCIATION is a newly formed drumming program that targets community at risk youth ages 10-17 years, who have an interest and/or passion for the Art in Drumming, Choreography and Performance . The mission is to promote self respect, unity, and understanding of life’s opportunity through music and leadership. The band collaborates with NW Tap Connection in Global Dance Party.
SEATTLE HIGHLAND DANCING ASSOCIATION was founded in 1950 by a group of parents and teachers with a view of promoting Highland Dance and the preservation of Scottish heritage and culture. Today SHDA continues that endeavor as a volunteer parent association dedicated to the same goals. The group presents highland dances, choreographed by Karen Shelton, with the NW Junior Pipe Band in Global Dance Party.
TE FARE O TAMATOA (The House of Tamatoa) is a non-profit organization made up from a mix of kids, teens, and adults who all share the love for Tahitian dance, music, language and culture. The performance group performs in Seattle and surrounding cities at various private events as well as community events including the Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center, Tacoma’s Ethnic Fest and First Night, Seattle’s Asian Pacific Islander Month and Bellevue’s 24 Hour Relay Challange. They have performed for Grand Master Lu (founder of the Buddhist Temple) which was webcast to 6,000 other people in the world and have competed in group and solo competitions in Canada and Las Vegas.
THE VICIOUS PUPPIES are an aspiring Seattle dance crew influenced by Seattle’s Massive Monkees, and taught by Jeromeskee and Tim the Pitt. Each member has developed their own individual style that makes them unique. Teamwork brings them together as more of a family than just a supercrew of b-boys.
