I know at least ONE Seattle Gay Scene writer who is going to plotz in excitement at this news. One of the great comedic minds of her generation, Lily Tomlin will be gracing the stage at the 5th Avenue Theatre for two shows, January 29 and 30, 2011! Ms Tomlin has delighted her fans for (gulp!) over 40 years and it doesn’t matter if you discovered her unique talents on the Laugh-In television show, or her film’s Nashville, Short Cuts, 9 to 5, The Late Show, I Heart Huckabees, or A Prairie Home Companion, or on stage in The Search for Intelligent Signs of Life in the Universe, or her turn as President Bartlet’s secretary on The West Wing; Ms Tomlin has been our National Treasure for a very long time.
Lily Tomlin as Linnea in Altman’s masterpiece, “Nashville”. I know about 20 people, myself included, who idolize this film. |
So, it’s a ideal opportunity to pay your respects to this great funny lady this coming January. Expect to see some of her greatest characters including Ernestine, Sister Boogie Woman, Mrs. Beasley and Edith Ann, the perpetual 5 year old. Tickets are on sale NOW at the 5th Avenue website. It’s a huge theater, but buy early to get the best seats. There are a LOT of Lily Tomlin fans in Seattle, especially in the LGBTQ community.
And, that’s the truth.
