Fans of beloved sci-fi/fantasy/horror television and film writer/producer Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Firefly; Dollhouse) can do a little jig because the Balagan Theatre is producing an encore engagement of their mega hit production of “Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog” in January. AND, it gets even better, because if you’re not aware, The Balagan lost their Capitol Hill theater space (under Boom Noodle at 12th/Pike) and are still apparently homeless and this production is booked into ACT’S Allen Theatre which is FAR more spacious than the old digs. This show is set to open January 28, 2011 and runs through February 12 and you should book tickets QUICKLY. Yes, the old space was much smaller, but the original production of “Dr Horrible” sold out VERY fast… Get your tickets here!
More happy news: it looks like most of the original cast is returning for the encore, including Eric Ankrim as Dr Horrible and Jake Groshong as his rival. This is also delightful news because this marks the return of Eric Ankrim to Seattle stages after a lengthy illness; the last weekend of the September production had to be cancelled due to Mr Ankrim’s illness and he also had to pull out of Seattle Rep’s production of Three Tall Women, (he was replaced by Nick Garrison). I’m very, very happy that Mr Ankrim has recovered and is back at work in this production…he was excellent in the original and one of the main reasons to see this show. (Check out my original review, HERE. It’s a slight but entertaining show with the usual Whedon-esquely endearing and loopy plotting and dialogue.)
A must see check out for fans of the original film that starred Neil Patrick Harris!
UPDATE: I’ve been informed by both ACT and The Balagan Theatre that Eric Ankrim will, sadly, not be a part of this remount of Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.
