The Muppets take Seattle in November at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, (or pre-occupied with figuring out what to wear for Halloween that exposes the maximum amount of flesh without freezing to death), you might need to know that SIFF (aka, Seattle International Film Festival which screens films year round) has moved from their homebase under McCaw Hall to TWO new venues. SIFF now has a permanent home in the Northwest Rooms up by the Vera Project where their offices and a screening room are located. AND, they’ve also taken possession of The Uptown Cinema in the Uptown/Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, only a few blocks away. That neighborhood, as well as cinemaphiles all over the city, were dismayed when the Uptown closed up shop a year ago. But, the recent re-opening of the Uptown under the management of SIFF has cheered everyone, giving new life to that part of town, and providing SIFF with three screens year round for programming amazing film events.

They opened up shop last weekend with a grand opening weekend, but SIFF at the Uptown really kicks it off with a big series for November. “Muppets, Music & Magic: Jim Henson’s Legacy” begins November 5 and continues through November 22 with a series of films and programs focusing on the beloved puppet creations of the entertainment legend. Produced by The Jim Henson Legacy Foundation and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the series features screenings of the three original Muppet films; the fantasy classics The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth (the latter with quote and sing along subtitles); and eight different collections of classic shorts featuring scenes and sketches from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and rarities from the Henson vaults. It’s a one of a kind chance to experience, yes, the magic of Jim Henson’s legacy.
