Remembering & Honoring Pulse Orlando, Three Years Later

June 12, 2019• byMichael Strangeways

PulseVictims

It’s the anniversary of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Massacre…three years ago, in 2016, a gunman killed 49 men and women, the majority of them LGBTQ Latinx and African-American/African-Latinx and wounded dozens more, some of them with crippling injuries they’ll have to endure for the rest of their lives. It was the largest massacre of LGBTQ Americans in our history. And, it especially hit home because it was OUR turf…in a rare place where we, as gay and queer people normally feel safe.

So, we will always honor those 49 lives lost…the dozens of wounded….all of their families….our LGBTQ family in Orlando…every year, that we can honor them while continuing to fight for sensible gun laws in this country and for equality for all LGBTQ people.

Here’s a link to stories about all 49 who died that night.

And, here’s a link to a poignant story about a survivor, Keinon Carter, and his life after Pulse.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
