She’s got more Tony Awards than a dog has fleas! Legendary actress/singer and Broadway star AUDRA MCDONALD is bopping into Seattle Town next week for “an evening of classics from Broadway and the American Songbook” with the Seattle Symphony.
Which basically means a swoon worthy evening of Audra singing Sondheim and Gershwin and Porter and all sorts of gems!
I decided to promote this because frankly I haven’t seen Benaroya Hall/the Symphony doing that much publicity for it and it hasn’t sold out and Audra is AWESOME so…yeah.
Plus, it’s the added fun of seeing her on a local stage AND also on our teevees right now in the “so awful it’s wonderful” HBO series “The Gilded Age” where she plays concerned mama to one of the main characters, Peggy Scott (played by the fantastic Denée Benton, another Broadway star). Ms Audra is one of the few actors on this messy, messy campfest to actually come out looking GOOD! (Or, at least not ridiculous.) Mother Scott told her daughter two episodes ago to NOT go to the Deep South on a business trip with her boss, warning her that a young priviliged black woman from New York City is NOT going to be able handling the overtly violent racism of the Jim Crow South and of course, Mother was RIGHT and shit hit the fan for poor Peggy…though, at least she got to hang out in a barn with her hot boss and make out with him while hiding from a mob of nasty crackers!
Mama is always right!
Oh, I could go on and on about the clunky plots and campy performances of The Gilded Age but…this is supposed to be about promoting Ms McDonald’s appearance at Benaroya Hall next Tuesday, December 5th. Snag your tickets at https://cart.seattlesymphony.org/25252/25253
The good seats are mostly gone but there’s some decent ones still available.
