Seattle Pride celebrations turn 50 in 2024 and the non-profit group Seattle Pride is already hard at work preparing for those celebrations. They’ve even come up with a theme and a cute logo….
SEATTLE— The six-month countdown has begun for Seattle’s 50th annual Pride celebration!
Next June Seattle Pride will mark 50 years since the first Seattle Pride celebration with the Seattle Pride in the Park festival on June 1, Seattle Pride Parade on June 30, and a month full of community events and observances. Seattle Pride has announced that the theme will be Now! – in honor of the original Seattle rallying cry for the recognition of gay rights.
In 1974, the historic moment unfurled in Seattle as more than 200 LGBTQIA+ people, buoyed by the Stonewall uprising five years earlier, gathered publicly in an act of collective resistance. Their purpose was clear: to expel shame and to stand in defiance of those who wished to keep queer folks hidden and disempowered. They were no longer willing to wait, no longer willing to hide, no longer willing to be denied the right to exist. Their echoing cry was NOW.
Now: this word transcends time, encompassing our past, grounding us in the present, and propelling us into the future. Now is the moment. Now is our legacy. Now is forever.
This anniversary provides a powerful opportunity to reflect on the unwavering resilience of Seattle’s LGBTQIA+ community, both living and ancestral – celebrating, remembering our cultural history, and stewarding the legacy of the trailblazers who demanded our rights, then and now.
Seattle Pride partnered with Auxiliary to create the 2024 Pride Month theme, logos, and visuals. A local Seattle creative agency, Auxiliary creates unparalleled, dynamic campaigns with impact and support brands with a design-forward approach driven by in-depth strategy.
