Three Dollar Bill Cinema Desperately Needs Your Help To Stay Alive

December 15, 2023• byMichael Strangeways

HEY! Do you love LGBTQ+ cinema and opportunities to enjoy it on screens all over the Seattle area all throughout the year? If so, that probably means you attend and view screenings and events produced by THREE DOLLAR BILL CINEMA, the Seattle non-profit that has been curating LGBTQ+ films for the last 28 years! And, like many non-profits, especially arts based ones, they are struggling with deficits and funding right now as people scramble to pay their own bills in an era of rising inflation. Unlike many other civilized countries that support funding the arts through government grants, the United States is a cheapass country that prefers to spend its money on handouts to huge corportations and multi-billion dollar defense budgets.

They need to raise $15k by the end of this year (meaning in the next two weeks!) to avoid an interruption in their programming! If you got an extra buck or two or two hundred in your pocket, help Three Dollar Bill Cinema continue their mission of programming queer film events for the entire community!

DO IT!!!!

More info via Three Dollar Bill:

Three Dollar Bill Cinema has been a Seattle queer film institution for 28-years, and we are at a critical point in our funding on whether we can continue for 2024.

We are so close to our minimum funding goal, and we know with your help, we can achieve this critical funding level.

We need a minimum of $15K more to set our 29th year in motion to bring you the best in LGBTQIA+ programming.

All funding beyond $25K, toward our $50K all-up goal, will enable us to start activating planning earlier in the coming year.

Help us ensure the long-term viability of the organization, or the continuation of incredible programs like Seattle Queer Film Festival, TRANSlations: Seattle Trans Film Festival, and Reel Queer Youth.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
