You Now Have A Reason To Go Check Out The Seatte Aqueerium And The New Overlook Walk

October 17, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

You know you’ve been looking for a good reason to schlep down to Seattle’s downtown waterfront…they’ve just opened a brand new Overlook Walk which connects Pike Place Market to the waterfront located where the old Alaskan Way Viaduct once stood. The multi million dollar project debuted to the public on October 4th and it’s the biggest civic project in decades (which is kinda sad that it’s been so long since Seattle did anything like this…but, I digress.)

And, there’s also the Seattle Aquarium’s brand new Ocean Pavilion addition which is actually part of the Overlook project (underneath). It just opened a few weeks ago…now you can check all this cool new stuff out on Sunday, October 20th when the Aquarium turns into the Seattle AQUEERIUM for one day for their annual “LGBTQ Day” celebration…which, let’s be frank, is just a clever marketing tool, like all ‘gay days’ but it IS a cool way to reach out to different communities. And, they have a lot of fun special events for folks with kids to enjoy. (But, even those without the rugrats can enjoy the Aquarium!)

You can snag tickets and more info at https://www.seattleaquarium.org/events/queer-community-day/

A bit more fishy poo:

The ocean is queer. Let’s celebrate that!

Join us as we welcome members of the queer community to the “Aqueerium” for a day of educational talks, fun activities and more. Learn more about the great diversity of ocean life. And you won’t want to miss the all-ages drag show or family-friendly drag story time.

Grab your tickets for this exciting day of learning and celebration at the Aquarium! Remember, one ticket grants you access to all three Aquarium buildings—including the new Ocean Pavilion—plus the day’s activities.

We’re working to build a more welcoming and accessible place for queer people in marine conservation. Complimentary admission tickets are available through the Seattle Aquarium Connections program. A full list of our Connections partners is available on our website. To learn about other available discounts, please visit our discounts and group rates page.

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
