Tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of Disney’s THE LION KING go on sale on Friday, October 24 at 10am. The show will play the Paramount Theatre from February 11 to March 15, 2009.
It was back in 1997 that Disney turned their most successful feature ever made (up until Finding Nemo in 2003) into The Lion King musical.
The Lion King is now in its eleventh sold-out year on Broadway and is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, the New York Drama Critics award for Best Musical, the Evening Standard Award for the Theatrical Event of the Year, two Olivier Awards, a Theatre World Award, the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography, two Drama League Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for The Lion King. The musical score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s music from the animated film along with three new songs by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Performances will be Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, and Sunday evenings at 6:30pm. There will also be matinees on Saturdays and Sundays and on Thursday, February 12 and Thursday, March 12.
