“For My Wife…” is not to be missed

October 19, 2008• byBill W

With 160 movies showing during this year’s Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, one movie in particular stands above all the rest. In a freak accident during a torrential rainstorm in Seattle, Kate Fleming was caught in her flooding basement but by the time rescuers rushed her to the hospital she was unconscious. At the hospital, her partner Charlene Strong was denied access to Kate during her final moments of her life because they were not married.

Charlene Strong’s testimony became influential in passing the state’s historic Domestic Partnership Registration Bill. “For My Wife…” is a powerful documentary that humanizes the struggle for full marriage equality.

Out & Equal Seattle provides a short preview of the film here.

“For My Wife…” plays Sunday October 19 at the Cinerama Theater.
