ACT Theatre always performs such an excellent version of the classic story. The 33rd Annual production of A Christmas Carol returns for the holiday season.
Since 1976, ACT Theatre has presented Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformational journey from selfish tightwad to enlightened soul after a restless evening filled with ghostly visitors from Christmases past, present and future.
It is staged in the ACT’s Allen Theatre, which is a quaint and wonderful 387-seat arena stage (theatre-in-the-round). It is a unique and memorable experience to take someone you love to this play and in this theater. Many have already had the opportunity to see this show over the years and know what I am talking about. If you have not seen the play it is worth your trouble getting into downtown during the Christmas season in December. Here is my review from last year.
Allen Fitzpatrick and Seán G. Griffin will perform alternating roles of Scrooge. I certainly will miss both Peter Silbert and David Pichette playing Scrooge, like in past years, since whenever I see Pichette in any other production in the city I think of Scrooge. However, it appears that Pichette still has three roles in the play including Marley. In fact, twenty actors play over 50 characters.
While there is nearly two shows per day between the opening and closing, the theater holds only 387 people (and with the arena style seating every seat is a good seat) so now would be the time to select your best date and purchase tickets. A Christmas Carol runs November 28 through December 27, 2008
Tickets range from $22 to $47. For more info and tickets visit www.acttheatre.org.
