The Burlesque Alice in Wonderland is coming

March 6, 2009• byBill W

Lily Verlaine & Jasper McCann, producers of the wildly successful holiday burlesque extravaganza “Land Of The Sweets: The Burlesque Nutcracker”, beacon you down the rabbit hole to discover “Through The Looking Glass: The Burlesque Alice In Wonderland.”

This swingin’ re-imagination of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale of nonsense and fantasy follows Alice as she discovers what wonders lie beyond the velvet rope at Wonderland’s most exclusive nightclub, The Looking Glass.

Another exploration of numerous artistic influences, this all-new production mixes jazz with Indian and exotic music to set the mood as dancers from around the region mix ballet, tap, contemporary, and jazz dance into a whirlwind of whimsy and bawdy beauty.

An all-star list of Seattle’s most respected Burlesque performers, including Lily Verlaine, Kitten La Rue, Miss Indigo Blue, Waxie Moon, Babette La Fave, The Swedish Housewife, Lucky Penny, Ben DeLaCreme, Polly Wood and Jasper McCann.

Joined by Miss Inga Ingénue and Lou Henry Hoover as Alice and the lovely dance trio Tribellas, the ensemble turns Wonderland’s topsy-turvy world into an ecdysiastic tour de force filled with glamour, comedy, dance, striptease, and song.

The Caterpillar, Jabberwocky, and even The Cheshire Cat; as if the original version were not already strange enough. As Alice finds herself caught up in the insanity, how will she ever get home, or does she even want to leave The Looking Glass at all?

Through The Looking Glass plays at The Triple Door at 7:00 pm (17+) and 10:00 pm (21+), March 24th-26th. The Triple Door is located at 216 Union in downtown Seattle, across from Benaroya Hall. Tickets are just $25 in advance. For more info and tickets, visit www.thetripledoor.net.
