This is sure to be a huge Anniversary Weekend at Cuff. On Friday, the night features DJ Mike Tolleson at Black Party until 3am (black attire requested). Earlier that evening the Washington State Leather Organization kicks off their main weekend over at Lifelong with a meet and greet so the action at Cuff is sure to start early. A group of guys are in town from Saturday’s Bearracuda event and will be at Cuff and CC Attle’s on Friday night to party down before their big event on Saturday at Chop Suey.
On Saturday, Cuff welcomes back DJ John Millier from Atlanta for a very special 16th Anniversary Party until 3am.
Atlanta-based DJ John Millier spins an eclectic mix of dark tribal beats and high-energy vocals and has been a guest DJ at many events in New York City, Atlanta, London, Miami, San Francisco, New Orleans, Vancouver and Whistler (BC).
DJ John Millier began figure skating at 11 years old and for fifteen years was a nationally-ranked competitive figure skater.
In the DJ booth, as on the ice, when you’re performing live there are no second chances — one slip, you fall, and the game is over.
After retiring from figure skating, John landed his first major New York City gig during Black Party Weekend in March of 2001. Next he was the opening DJ at The Frying Pan for Colt’s “Black Sunday On The Water” and again at New York City’s Gay Pride Weekend at “Manhunt 2001.”
John spun at several New York clubs until 2003 when he and his partner moved to Atlanta. After an overwhelming response to his guest appearances during Pride and the 4th of July, John was offered the Saturday night residency at The Heretic. John spent two years with his own night called ROMP! and suddenly he was a hot commodity with the other venues in town like Red Chair, The Abbey and The Jungle club.
Next stop was New Orleans, playing the main Halloween Party in 2005, Gay Ski Week at Whistler Mountain in 2006 and the Winter Party in Miami.
“John’s love of high-energy vocals mixed with a penchant for dark tribal beats creates a unique undercurrent of rhythmic and melodic energy that seamlessly ebbs and flows throughout his pulsating sets.”
I like music that takes me somewhere. I like to change the pace throughout the night — having a number of peaks and valleys, creating a journey that’s sonically diversified, yet, at the same time, has continuity. I play what I know makes me dance and if I’m not dancing in the booth, then I shouldn’t expect anyone be dancing on the floor.
Don’t miss any of the action. Get there early and get that wristband.
