Campaign Disclosure Laws in Jeopardy

For whatever reason, Attorney General Rob McKenna decided it was not worth showing up to defend the state’s disclosure laws when the “Protect Marriage” group originally sought a temporary federal injunction to hide the names of those who signed Ref. 71. Well, he certainly must have understood the ramifications that this ruling could have on public disclosure laws, not just in Washington, but around the country.

But then the federal judge goes and decides that the signers will remain anonymous and this could be an issue of protected political speech. This could turn out to be McKenna’s biggest blunder in his political career to date. Just read this article: Ref. 71 ruling could threaten campaign disclosure laws.
