The multi-tasking dynamo known as Paula, The Swedish Housewife is keeping very busy programming not only her big, main stage show series known as The Gilded Stage at the chi-chi cabaret The Triple Door with the likes of Justin Bond and Immodesty Blaize, (and coming up in June, John Kelly in Paved Paradise: The Art of Joni Mitchell) but the wicked little sexpot has also managed to squeeze in time for a SECOND series of draggy/burlesquey/chanteusey shows she likes to call, Thee Wild Herring Cabaret, (no, I don’t understand the “Thee” part either…but, she IS arty!) which will be running almost monthly until the end of the year in the West Hall theater space at Oddfellows Hall, (2nd Floor, 915 East Pine Street) in the very, very hot and trendy Upper Pike/Pine/12th Street neighborhood of Capitol Hill. First up in this series which Miss Paula is calling, “a smorgasbord of the Avant-garde” and, “not your mamma’s neo-cabaret” will be the nationally renowned performance artists, Joey Arias and Sherry Vine in a duo show they call, “Looking Back at the Future!” Arias, a star of Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity and Vine, founding member of Theatre Couture are Cabaret Superstars not only in New York, LA and Miami but have performed to captive audiences throughout the world. Looking Back at the Future is self-described by them as, “sexy and funny with songs from The Andrew Sisters, Guns and Roses, Billie Holiday, Lady GaGa and more.” Who can pass up the opportunity to hear such an eclectic selection of music?
Joey Arias and Sherry perform tonight, Wednesday May 5 with doors opening at 9pm and the show at 10pm and it’s 21+. For tickets, go here. And, mark your calendars for the next show in the series on June 5, Night, Sleep, Death and the Stars: an Evening with Nick Garrison an evening with beloved local actor and Re-bar star, the one and only, Nick Garrison.
