Do Stuff This Weekend! Janeane Garofalo! Etsy Rain Craft Show! Willy Wonka!

May 7, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

We’ve already plugged her once (that didn’t sound right) but we love comedian/actress/motormouth/indie cutie Janeane Garofalo and she has a gig at The Moore Saturday, May 8 with TWO shows, one at 7pm and a second show at 9:30pm AND she has special guest Kyle Kinane (we have no idea who that is, but I’m sure Kyle is fabulous), AAAAND, the shows are being taped for an upcoming DVD so there’s a chance your BEAUTIFUL face, or even your distinctive laugh, could be seen/heard on the DVD. Tickets are still available…GO!

Etsy, the nifty, cool crafty/arty website are smart cookies so they have their own local street team called “EtsyRain” and the clever, charming, handmade craftspeople of EtsyRain are throwing their 2nd Annual Spring Craft show at the Intiman Theater at Seattle Center from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, May 8. Admission is a suggested donation of $1 (but, pay more if you can) that goes directly to Lifelong Aids Alliance…you can also bring canned/non-perishable food to donate as well, for their meal delivery program. Dozens of local artisans/craft people will be participating with a huge selection of handmade clothing items, jewelery, home decor, kid stuff, toys and general what-not. Remember: you can never have too much locally made, cool stuff in your house…and if you do have too much, throw a yard sale…

If you don’t like the classic 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory based on the book by Roald Dahl and featuring the “he shoulda won the Oscar that year” fabulousness of Gene Wilder, then, We-Cannot-Be-Friends…(And, we will not even mention the abominable Tim Burton remake…) Happily, despite the fact that the folks at SIFF are busy with the Box Office opening for the 36th Annual Seattle International Film Festival this weekend (more on that in another post today), the SIFF staff decided we all needed a bit of fun and cheer in our lives and are screening a very special print of our favorite childhood film TONIGHT, Friday May 7 at 7 and 9:30pm. And, this screening is special because it’s in SMELL-O-VISION! Yes, you’ll smell the chocolatey goodness of Wonka’s World (I’m hoping the Oompa Loompas smell like butterscotch) and finally learn the olfactory delights of the infamous “Schnozzberry”! UPDATE: Oops! This event has sold all their advance tickets but if you get there EARLY and stand in the RUSH line, you might be able to get in!

He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
