My trusty cub reporter/staff photographer/Jimmy Oleson wannabe, Carlos Chavez and I attended the lavish Opening Gala for the Seattle International Film Festival last night at Benaroya Hall and we got some great pictures…or, rather, Carlos got some great pictures while I directed him. The movie, The Extra Man, was disappointing (the book is much better) but the audience really seemed to enjoy it, and Paul Dano and Kevin Kline were excellent in their roles. But, the fun part of the Gala is schmoozing…take a look at some of our pix.
Here’s the star of the film, the very talented Paul Dano with our equally talented but not quite as cute mayor, Mike McGinn.
Here’s co-star, (in a tiny, tiny role that should have been bigger) Alicia Goranson, probably best known to you as Becky #1 on the hit sit-com, Roseanne.
A better shot of Paul Dano, best known for his work in L.I.E., There Will Be Blood, and Little Miss Sunshine. He’s a great actor and has a knack for appearing in good, indie films.
This is director/actor Linas Phillips and his Plus One…Linas’s film, Bass Ackwards is a locally made road movie that screens tonight at 9:45pm at Harvard Exit as well as Sunday at 3:45pm at the same venue.
Seattle’s very own Rat City Roller Girls were handing out the drink tickets…If you don’t love the Roller Girls, you are DEAD to me!
Finally, there are reports that the Undead (no, not members of the TeaBagger Party) will be taking to the streets of Capitol Hill tonight starting at 9:30pm at Boom Noodle at 12th & Pike and eventually ending up at The Egyptian by midnight to check out the new George Romero film, Survival of the Dead which is screening as part of SIFF. You have been warned.
