The big SIFF tribute honoree for this year, acclaimed actor Edward Norton is in Seattle, AS WE SPEAK, and undoubtedly preparing for his big tribute gala event which is going down tonight, June 4 at 7pm at the Egyptian Theatre. Sadly, (for those of you without tickets), tickets for the tribute itself are sold out, but there are rumored to be a few tickets still left for the super colossal reception/tribute package which includes the tribute itself, AND the reception/cocktail party/meet n great being hosted for the actor. Tickets are $125 and you HAVE to be a SIFF member to purchase them; go here for info.
If that’s out of your price range, or you’re not into nibbling on canapes and drinking Ronrico rum drinks while pining for Mr Norton, you could also check out the other Edward Norton films screening this weekend; he is scheduled to be attending all of them and they include David Fincher’s Fight Club, screening at midnight at the Egyptian (intro by Mr Norton); Spike Lee’s 25th Hour will be at the Neptune on June 5 at 10pm, (another intro by Ed); and on Sunday the 6th, he returns to the Egyptian for the encore screening of his new film, Leaves of Grass, the film screening tonight at the tribute, with the film’s director Tim Blake Nelson, (also an actor, memorable in the Coen Brother’s O Brother, Where Art Thou? as the dimwitted convict on the lam with Clooney and Turturro) to do a post screening Q/A. Poor Ed is going to be exhausted before he leaves town; SIFF demands their tributees to work their asses off!
If you’re not a Nortonholic, and you still want to check out some films, then you might try the French and Arabic language, The String, about a 30 year old architect living in France who returns home to Tunisia after the death of his father and having to deal with being a gay Muslim expatriate having to readjust to his new life back in his very conservative homeland. The sexy family handyman is more than willing to help him with this readjustment…The String screens Saturday, June 5 at 9:30pm at the Egyptian…Check it out, if you’re not all tied up…
