“Yes, Lily…Both of your Daddies are up for the same award…we promise to not let this break up the family!”
They announced the nominations for the 2010 Emmy Awards this morning and gay actors/actresses, gay characters and gay favorites all earned a lot of Emmy love and I’m especially pleased because ALL my favorite shows seemed to get some love with Lost, Glee, Modern Family and Mad Men all earning multiple nominations. The biggest gay love fest was in the Best Supporting Actor-Comedy category with the majority of the nominees either actually GAY or playing gay characters, or both. Out actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson was nominated along with his screen partner Eric Stonestreet as the gay couple on Modern Family; Chris Colfer was nominated for his role as Kurt on Glee and out actor Neil Patrick Harris was nominated for his STRAIGHT role as Barney on How I Met Your Mother…all this is fantastic, but WHO THE HELL DO YOU ROOT FOR!?!?! (I’m going with NPH because he hasn’t won one yet and he rocks and for the others, this is their first nomination…they’ll have other chances…hopefully.)
If you don’t ADORE this woman, there is something wrong with you…
And Glee racked up the most nominations, 19, including Best Comedy, and acting nominations for Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer and guest star nods for Mike O’Malley as Colfer’s understanding (and hot) dad on the show, Neil Patrick Harris as a nasty rival to Mr Schu, and everyone’s favorite Broadway diva, Kristin Chenowith as the sexy, funny, drunken bimbo April…and, I’ll be really surprised if Jane Lynch doesn’t win for her viciously funny Sue Sylvester; not only is she an audience favorite, Lynch is VERY popular and well respected in Hollywood and seen as an actress who’s paid her dues. Also, she deserves it. And, she’s tall.
Glee star Matthew Morrison is also apparently nominated for a Grabby award for best filling in a Manwich…
That OTHER beloved new comedy with gay content, Modern Family, also picked up 14 nominations including Best Comedy and acting nominations for most of the adult cast…in addition to Stonestreet and Ferguson, co-stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara also got nods, as did guest star Fred Willard. Only poor old Al Bundy, Ed O’Neill, failed to get a nomination, (and honestly, Rico Rodriguez who plays little Manny, should have got one, too. That kid is amazing on that show with excellent comedy timing.)
Old Spice actor Isaiah Mustafa is the sexiest man on the planet…there will be NO discussions about this.
My other favorite shows, Lost and Mad Men also did well with nominations and the best commercial of the year, the insanely sexy Old Spice commercial with Isaiah Mustafa as the hunk of your dreams riding bareback (on a horse) picked up a nomination for Best Commercial (who knew they had an Emmy for commercials?). Oh, and fan favorites Betty White (guest host on SNL) and Lily Tomlin (Damages) also picked up nods, and for fans of Conan O’Brien the news was also sweet. His short-lived stint on The Tonight Show earned 4 nominations while Jay Leno’s version received ZERO nominations. Yikes!
Read more about the Emmys here and the show itself is August 29 on NBC.
